PostHog vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude (2026): Product Analytics Free Tiers and Event Pricing

Amplitude has the biggest free tier, 2M events a month, so it is the cheapest start for a product under that volume. PostHog has the lowest published paid price, about $324 for 10M anonymous events, but it costs about $1,080 if every event is tied to a person profile. Mixpanel charges one flat rate, $840 at 10M events on Growth, which makes it the cheaper pick for B2B apps where nearly every event belongs to a logged-in user.
All three bill by event volume, not by seat, so the bill grows with your customers rather than your team. The real question is not which tool has the best funnel chart. It is how many events you will send next year, and what share of them need a person attached.
Figures come from the PostHog, Mixpanel and Amplitude pricing pages, checked October 28 and 29, 2026. PostHog costs are our calculation from its published per-event bands; Mixpanel costs are Growth list prices on annual billing. They match the numbers in our PostHog vs Mixpanel comparison. Free tiers compared
| Feature | PostHog | Mixpanel | Amplitude |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free events / month | 1M | 1M | 2M |
| Free session replays / month | 5K web, 2.5K mobile | 10K | 10K |
| Other free allowances | 1M feature flag requests; surveys and error tracking metered separately | Unlimited seats, up to 10 active feature flags | Feature flags, web experiments, guides and surveys included |
| Billing model once you pay | Per product, per event; identified events cost extra | Events per month in volume bands, one rate per event | Event-based; Plus starts at $0 and scales to 70M events |
| Data retention | Replays: 1 month free, 90 days paid | Replays: 30 days on Free and Growth | Events: 1 year on Free, 2 years on Plus |
| Published ceiling before sales | None; every band is published | 20M events on Growth | 70M events on Plus |
| Biggest trade-off | Identified events can cost more than Mixpanel | No published price above 20M events | No per-volume price on the page |
Amplitude’s 2M free events is double what the other two give away, and it is a real advantage for a seed-stage product doing a few thousand weekly actives. Mixpanel gives the most room on people, with unlimited seats on Free. PostHog gives the most products, but each one has its own meter, so “free” depends on how many of them you switch on.
What each tool costs from 2M to 20M events a month
| Feature | PostHog (anonymous / all identified) | Mixpanel Growth, billed annually | Amplitude |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1M events / month | $0 / $0 | $0 | $0 (Free) |
| 2M events / month | About $50 / about $248 | $185 | $0 (Free) |
| 5M events / month | About $153 / about $560 | $438 | Not published; Amplitude estimator |
| 10M events / month | About $324 / about $1,080 | $840 | Not published; Amplitude estimator |
| 20M events / month | About $643 / about $1,928 | $1,635 | Not published; Amplitude estimator |
| Above 20M events | Published bands continue | Sales quote | Plus to 70M via estimator, then sales |
Most real products land between PostHog’s two numbers. A marketing site plus an app, where only signed-in app traffic is identified, sends mostly anonymous events, and PostHog is cheaper than Mixpanel at every volume. A B2B app where every event belongs to a logged-in user sits near the identified figure, and Mixpanel is cheaper there up to 20M events.
Past 2M events, Amplitude can’t be priced from its website. Its Plus plan “starts at $0,” asks for a credit card, and points you to an estimator. That is fine for a buyer who expects to negotiate. It is a problem for a CTO who needs a number in next year’s budget by Friday.
Check one thing before you compare anything else: Mixpanel’s startup program gives companies founded less than five years ago, with $8M or less in total funding, a free first year with 1 billion events and 1 million session replays. If you qualify, it beats every free tier on this page for twelve months.
Where each option fits (and where it does not)
| Tool | Fits | Does not fit |
|---|---|---|
| PostHog | Engineer-owned analytics, mostly anonymous traffic, and teams that want replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys on one bill with every price published | B2B apps where every event is identified: at 10M events it costs about $1,080 against Mixpanel’s $840 |
| Mixpanel | Product managers and analysts who build their own reports, products where nearly every event belongs to a logged-in user, and startups that qualify for its free first year | Mostly anonymous traffic, where PostHog is cheaper at every volume, and anyone above 20M events who wants a published price |
| Amplitude | Products under 2M events a month, and growth teams that expect to sign an enterprise contract anyway | Teams that need to budget from a public price list once they pass 2M events |

The Verdict
Start on Amplitude Free if you are under 2M events a month and want the most room before a bill arrives. Once you pay, choose PostHog if most of your traffic is anonymous and engineers own analytics, and switch person profiles off for anonymous events in week one. Choose Mixpanel if product managers own analytics and nearly every event belongs to a logged-in user, since its flat $840 at 10M events beats PostHog’s fully identified $1,080. Before you sign, estimate two numbers: your monthly events a year from now, and the share that need a person attached.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which product analytics tool has the biggest free tier: PostHog, Mixpanel or Amplitude?
Amplitude, on raw event volume. Its Free plan includes 2M events a month and 10K session replays. Mixpanel Free includes 1M events, 10K session replays and unlimited seats. PostHog's free allowance is 1M events, 5K web recordings and 1M feature flag requests, with each product metered separately. Prices checked October 29, 2026.
What does 10M events a month cost on PostHog, Mixpanel and Amplitude?
About $324 a month on PostHog if the events are anonymous, or about $1,080 if every event is attached to a person profile. Mixpanel Growth lists $840 a month on annual billing. Amplitude does not publish a price at that volume: its Plus plan starts at $0, includes the first 2M events, scales to 70M events, and sends you to an estimator for the number.
Is PostHog cheaper than Mixpanel and Amplitude?
For anonymous events, PostHog is cheaper than Mixpanel at every published volume: about $324 against $840 at 10M events a month. If every event carries a person profile, PostHog costs more than Mixpanel up to 20M events. Amplitude is cheapest up to 2M events because those are free, but it does not publish prices above that, so it cannot be compared from the website.
Why does PostHog charge more for identified events?
PostHog bills an anonymous event at the base rate and an identified event, one attached to a person profile, at the base rate plus an add-on. The add-on costs more than the base event in the early bands. Mixpanel charges one rate per event regardless. You can turn person profiles off for anonymous traffic in PostHog, which is the single biggest lever on its bill.
Is there a way to get Mixpanel free for longer?
Yes, if you qualify for its startup program. Companies founded less than five years ago with $8M or less in total funding get a free first year with 1 billion events and 1 million session replays. Budget for list prices from month thirteen.
